Effective Higher Education Teaching: A Workshop on Contemporary Didactic Concepts

This workshop offers a comprehensive exploration of contemporary didactic approaches tailored for the higher education environment. Designed for both early-career researchers and established lecturers, the program aims to enhance your didactical toolkit and foster critical reflection on your role as an educator in the modern academic landscape.
Through a carefully structured blend of synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences, you will engage with cutting-edge teaching methodologies, explore the integration of artificial intelligence in education, and develop strategies for creating student-centered learning environments. The workshop will provide different onlineplatforms (moodle, padlet, mentimeter, …) for collaborative exchange with colleagues, allowing you to experiment with innovative techniques and construct a bespoke teaching concept aligned with current educational research.
Participation in this workshop will challenge you to reconsider traditional pedagogical paradigms and equip you with evidence-based strategies to enhance your teaching efficacy. Join us to refine your instructional approach and contribute to the advancement of higher education pedagogy at our institution.
Workshop Contents:
- Contemporary pedagogical approaches in higher education
- Learner-centered course design and the 3Z planning technique
- Interactive teaching methods and technology integration
- AI applications in academic instruction
- Psychological and cognitive aspects of learning
- Blended learning strategies and Virtual Campus utilization
Organizational Notes:
- Kick-off session: February 17, 2025, 9:00-12:30 (online)
- Self-study phase: Approximately 3 hours of asynchronous learning (videos, quizzes, texts) and development of a teaching concept
- Final session: March 10, 2025, 9:00-13:00 (synchronous hybrid meeting) at the University of Bayreuth Participants can join either in person or online.
- Working language: English
- Platform: Moodle (elearning-extern.uni-bayreuth.de)
- Participants should have access to a computer with a stable internet connection for the online sessions and asynchronous learning phase
- For the final session, participants should bring their developed teaching concepts for discussion and practical application. Please also bring your laptop.
Your trainer:
Paul Dölle will conduct the seminar with you. He is a research. He works at the Centre for University Teaching (ZHL). He has been interested in digital teaching and learning resources since 2014 and organises seminars on the subject of ‘digital’ and many topics of higher education didactics. The most important topics in his portfolio are the flipped classroom, activating students with analogue and digital means, moderating small and large groups, training tutors and e-tutors and all areas of artificial intelligence in teaching. He has been giving seminars on the use of AI in teaching since 2023. He organises the ZHL seminar programme.
